What Mary’s Doing This Week

Howdy, goddesses! I think this is going to be a weekly fixture here at Goddess Within to keep me blogging on a regular basis!  A little slice of me in 2015!

“It is in the details of life that beauty is revealed, sustained, and nurtured. Outside, winter’s darkness closes in.  Inside, you have found your own Light.”  – Sarah Ban Breathnach

This week I’ve been curious about researching my Native American ancestry.  I’m very interested in genealogy and have been slowly chipping away at my ancestry as a whole, so far getting back to an Englishman born in France in the 16th century (and that was just the paternal lineage of my biological father’s side!).  I am descended from Lakota Sioux and Shawnee, and while my mother, uncle, and two of my sisters inherited darker skin and beautiful coal-black eyes, I look whiter than white with my pasty pink skin and green eyes, haha.

So hopefully more on that soon!  It’s a very white-American thing of me to do, but it IS wonderful to see where my ancestors were and what their names were.  It’s important in my life and something on my list of 100 things to do this year, so hopefully I can get a nice little chunk completed!

I FINALLY got my Shining Year/Business Workbooks! Yeehee!!!

Starting to work on them as I drink up my favourite coffee: raspberry truffle.  Great way to start a day!

Oh yes, I wanted to include the crystals I focus on meditating with each month this year.  It’s a tad late for January’s, but here it is anyway!

January’s Meditating Crystal

This month I’ve been working with Amethyst, a particularly powerful crystal known for its connection to spiritual consciousness.   It’s a crystal I’ve always favoured, both for its beauty and its invoked calmness.  It’s a crystal of grounding, meditation, protection, and balance.

This particular stone was given to me by a friend who is curious about crystals and it’s very flat, fitting between my thumb and forefinger in meditation.

Today’s entry in Simple Abundance made me pause, my lungs taking in a quick breath. It spoke to me on a day where I have been feeling particularly depressed; it would be the sixth anniversary of my marriage, which began on a blustery snowy day where hope and promise flourished on warm joy.

I thought I would be married to him for the rest of my life.  Even last year’s anniversary was fun and filled with love.  This year I’ve felt only darkness, which has dampened the intense spark of life that built the fire under my ass to begin with.  But this is a journey, a powerful journey of evolution and spirit.

I am a woman pioneer, blazing a trail through hardships in new territory.  Maybe discouraged and afraid of the treacherous unknown, but I’ve come too far to go back now.

I really have nothing more to lose.  And when this journey is through? I will be strong.

“Woman must be the pioneer in this turning inward for strength. In a sense she has always been the pioneer.”
– Anne Morrow Lindbergh

– Sarah Ban Breathnach
