What Mary’s Doing This Week

Howdy all! Happy Friday, wherever you are in the world! Here’s what I’ve been up to here lately…

I’ve been working on more art, slowly but steadily making a little portfolio for myself. It’s been so much fun that I’m no longer concerned about comparing myself to other artists or putting myself down. Art isn’t about perfection, at least not the kind of art I believe in!

Here’s a little view of a couple things I’ve been doing…

I started buying Mollie Makes magazine last month, and I gotta say that I’m HOOKED. There’s so many creative things to see and do! This month’s issue includes a kit to make your own dream catcher. The centre is crocheted in doily fashion, and as my stitches aren’t very tight, it hangs a little loose in the hoop and not perfectly even. But hey, it’s my first time crocheting like that! 🙂 I have to add colourful felt feathers to the fringe, but because I can’t seem to sturdily tie them the way they want me to, I’m going to cheat and use fabric glue to attach them! Guess I’d better get to Dunelm soon.

Wednesday nights have officially been taken up by outings as a group. This last Wednesday was my third in a row, and I’m quite proud of myself for overcoming severe anxiety long enough to let myself have fun. Last week, we all met at our friend Holly’s house and played an incredibly chaotic (and hilarious) game of Monopoly involving far more people than the game allows, all while cramming awesome pizza into our gobs. This Wednesday, we all went to the casino in Leicester, where we all lost in video roulette. As consolation, we had a fabulous dinner at Wagamama; I had pork ramen and mushroom onigiri, and it was fab! Then we went back to Heavenly Desserts for orgasmic treats.

I’m still not quite used to the sun setting so late. I snapped this pic at 10:20pm, right outside Heavenly Desserts. Check out the horizon where the sky is still orange and pink! This is why I love this time of year so much, although the sun is never out quite this late in Toronto or Virginia. However, I don’t love the super early rising sun all that much, because I am just not a morning person! 😉

And then I took this selfie of all of us waiting for our desserts. The only missing member of Wednesday Club is Jon’s brother, Matt, who hasn’t been able to make it these last two weeks.

I can’t believe it’s been three months to the day that we set out for Pearson International Airport, nervously but confidently ready to board a plane to bring us to England. It seems like a lifetime ago, now. And this means I’m halfway through my stay, which is an incredibly depressing realization. But all I can do is continue to enjoy my time here as much as I can, because it would be a shame to waste it on premature sadness and terrible worry.

Take a few deep lungfuls of early summer air…

And breathe out.

It’s all going to be okay.

I’ve had a rejuvenating sit outside in the garden today, with a cup of tea, in warm sunlight that soon gave way to cloud cover. It helped calm my mind. Now I’m off to look in my crochet and craft magazines and see what I can make next! Toodles!
