Hump Day Art – October 18

Hello everyone! Happy Hump Day! Today I’ve got this past week’s Inktober 2017 sketches to share with you. Inktober is a worldwide art challenge where artists create a drawing each day for the month of October for a total of 31 drawings. To help out and inspire, there’s an official prompt list. To check it out and maybe join in (it’s never too late! Well, unless it’s November 1st!), then check it out *here*.

I’ve been wanting to do Inktober ever since I first heard of it a few years ago. I could never summon up the inspiration to do a drawing a day, no matter how small, but this year I was determined to do it and see it through. I’m following the official prompts for 2017, all on the general theme of my mental illness and how I struggle with my own mind. Some of the sketches have descriptions, but I can’t really summon proper words for others.

CONTENT WARNING — Artistic depictions of mental illness, weight issues, trauma from sexual assault and self-harm

October 11 – Run
Often, my cup runs over and spills everywhere. This can be with any emotion or trigger.

October 12 – Shattered

October 13 – Teeming
Trying to concentrate on one thing at a time feels like navigating through a tightly clustered, rapidly moving school of fish. My mind is thick with them.

October 14 – Fierce
On days where I’m feeling great and let my guard down, sometimes it pounces on me out of nowhere.

October 15 – Mysterious
I have a lot of trouble really opening up to my friends because I feel like I’m going to just bother them or bring them down.

October 16 – Fat
As I slowly lose weight, I still struggle to appreciate and love my outer image as a part of who I am.

October 17 – Graceful
I’m very, very harsh on myself when I don’t live up to my own expectations.

October 18 – Filthy
This one was very difficult for me to draw. My first boyfriend sexually assaulted me for months, and I thought I deserved it. I thought I was filthy, impure in the eyes of God. I’d go home and self-harm and try to make myself clean again.
